A more daring and hilly path to Machu Picchu that also raises your altitude is the 4 days Salkantay Trek. Explore a variety of microclimates and breathtaking settings, each with its own unique wildlife and plants. With unparalleled vistas of the snow-capped Humantay and Salkantay Mountains, this 4-day climb to Machu Picchu is one of a kind. Hike off the usual route by taking our special route, which also allows you to see amazing glacial lakes like Humantay Lake that are stunningly clean. For a remarkable vista of Machu Picchu, ascend the isolated footpath to the abandoned Inca Ruins of Llactapata. On your final morning, you go to Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the New Wonder of the World!
The Salkantay Trek Service is our most well-liked trek and provides travelers with the most affordable way to do the 4-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. A group of trekkers from abroad will be joining you, which is a fantastic chance to meet new people and have fun.
Day 01: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay lake – Sorococcha.
Day 02: Sorococha – The Pass -Huayracmachay – Chaullay – Lucmabamba
Day 03: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes
Day 04: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will take you up from your hotel at 4:30 am for this Andean mountain experience, and you will spend three hours traveling to the Soraypampa trailhead in our private vehicle. You can see the communities of Iscuchaca and Limatambo, the surrounding valleys, and the well-known snow-capped Salkantay Mountain as you travel over winding roads in the Andes. Savor a substantial and delectable breakfast at the Soraypampa trailhead while taking in the breathtaking views of the Salkantay Mountain (6,217m/ 20,396ft) and Humantay Mountain (5,900m/ 19,356ft) glaciers.
We climb up to Humantay Lake, which is 2.5 hours round-trip, and admire its stunning, azure waters. After being enthralled by the splendor of this amazing work of nature, hike back to the beginning to resume your journey to Salkantay Pampa, where you will be treated to a sumptuous lunch.
We next go to Soroccocha (4,400m/14,517ft), which is our first campground and is located at the base of the majestic Salkantay Mountain. We’ll warm up with afternoon tea at camp, and there will be snacks waiting for us. Before supper, you can get settled in the tents that will be put up.
Before you wake up, the guide will bring you a nice cup of tea or coffee to sip in the tent. Following a delicious breakfast, we go for an hour higher until arriving at Apacheta Pass (4,650m/15,367ft). The breathtaking vistas of these three majestic snow-capped mountains—Salkantay, Humantay, and Huayanay—will leave you speechless. The guide will explain the significance of these peaks in traditional Andean beliefs, since they are revered by the Andean people. Below you are little picturesque lakes and magnificent whitewater rivers. For a hot lunch, go two hours down to Huayracmachay. We then descend for three hours to reach Chayllay, a remote village. Admire the breathtaking waterfalls and revitalizing, verdant valleys along the route. The arid Andean heights have given way to the steamy and balmy Amazon as you descend!
After that, we will camp at Lucmabamba after taking the local transportation.
You will be treated to our chef’s final delectable meal after enjoying another hot beverage in your sleeping bag. From here, we follow the Incas for three hours to the Puncuyoc Pass (2,700m/8,858ft) over the isolated and historic Inca Trail. Admire the breathtaking sights of fruit farms in deep valleys that stretch into the horizon as you go. At last, we reach the Llactapata Inca Ruins, which are situated just across the valley from Machu Picchu. There, we pause to appreciate the Citadel of Machu Picchu’s advantageous location surrounded by the mountains of Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu, and the Aobamba Canyon.
You’ve been waiting for this day! Take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu after eating an early breakfast at the hotel, and you’ll be there to see the sunrise. This site is extremely remarkable and something you won’t want to miss! The tour, which lasts around two hours, will be given by the guide. Explore the majority of Machu Picchu Citadel’s key features. Find out how Machu Picchu is separated into three areas: residential, religious, and agricultural.
Once you’ve had enough of Machu Picchu’s breathtaking vistas, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on when your train leaves, you could also have time for shopping, sightseeing, a trip to the museum, or a visit to the hot springs.
At 2:55 or 3:20 p.m., the Expedition train will return you to Ollantaytambo, crossing the breathtaking Urubamba River. The river has numerous lovely whitewater areas, and the canyon is narrow at Aguas Calientes. If you gaze up high on the steep canyon wall, you can also see Wiñay Wayna from the train! When you return to Ollantaytambo, the driver will meet you at the train station exit and bring you in our private vehicle back to the Cusco hotel. Reach your lodging by 7:00 p.m.
We then descend for two hours to the hydroelectric plant, which serves as Cusco’s main source of electricity. Before boarding the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will have supper and check into our hotel, we eat lunch nearby.
