With great pleasure, Saywa Expeditions offers the four-day Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. With its breathtakingly blue lakes, waterfalls, llamas, alpacas, and spectacular ice glaciers, our own special route is breathtakingly beautiful. Have the opportunity to engage with the people as you go through the most remote indigenous communities. At Lares’ natural hot springs, the hike will come to a conclusion. Visit Machu Picchu, the Inca citadel, to cap off your incredible vacation. Explore the hidden Inca city that the Spanish never found, which is why it is still largely intact today.
Day 01: Cusco – Huaran – Cancha Cancha
Day 02: Cancha Cancha – Quiswarani
Day 03: Quiswarani – Cuncani – Lares – Ollantaytambo
Day 04: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Beginning at 5:00 am, you will be picked up from your Cusco hotel to begin your Andean mountain journey through the Lares Valley to Machu Picchu. Travel to Huaran, where we will meet your muleteers and horses and eat breakfast. Put on your boots, get set, and start the first three hours of our ascent toward Cancha Cancha. Your trekking chef will create a delectable lunch for you to eat while traveling, which will refresh your energy for the journey ahead.
Being self-sufficient for hundreds of years, Cancha Cancha (3,900 m/12,800 ft) is one of the most remote and traditional villages. The village was only recently linked to power in November 2019, and there is no road leading to it. Following your tent setup and afternoon tea, you will get the chance to pay a visit to a local family. With your guide translating, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of life in a traditional Andean community. The Inca constellations, which they still use today for agricultural advice, will be shown to you by your guide after supper.

Before waking up for breakfast, your guide will offer you a cup of hot tea or coffee to enjoy. We start our seven-hour journey northeast with all the energy we have left for our second day. The journey starts off as a strenuous one, with high passes along the route to Pachacutec Pass, the trek’s highest point (4,500m / 14,800ft). The views of glaciers, isolated lakes, herds of alpacas, steep valleys, and breathtaking mountain vistas will inspire you throughout this strenuous portion of the trip; keep a look out for Caracara hawks and Andean geese in the skies!
Following our enjoyment of the peak, we will descend for three hours to arrive at our campground, which is situated in the Quiswarani village (3,700 m/12,139 ft). Along the route, we will follow a remote path where we will witness indigenous people from the highlands herding their alpacas and llamas while dressed in traditional garb. The native Indians will communicate with you in Quechua, which is the Inca language. You will learn some Quechua from your guide, who will also serve as your interpreter. The campground will be about there when you reach the breathtaking seven waterfalls!
You will find everything prepared at the campground. Prior to supper, savor some warming beverages and nibbles before getting a good night’s sleep.

As you start your most picturesque day yet, your adventure begins! After three hours of climbing, we arrive at Willqaqasa Pass (4,200 m/13,779 ft), where we can see the mountain reflections in the glacier lakes in mirror pictures. We can see the magnificent Colquecruz and Pitusiray mountains from the pass, which are quite amazing. As we go farther, we pass through Puna grasslands, fertile farming areas, and unspoiled natural lakes. We make our two-hour descent to the Cucani village. By establishing a connection with the indigenous children in the area, we might be able to visit their school and spend some time with the youngsters.
After meeting up with our driver in Cuncani, we will travel down through verdant valleys that are home to huge agricultural regions, fruit trees, a variety of plants, and local flowers like wild orchids and begonias. At last, we will reach our goal, the Lares hot springs (3100 m/10 170 ft), where we are eager to unwind, have lunch, and soak in the natural volcanic hot springs for an hour. We must bid our great chef and riders farewell. Following lunch in Lares, we travel 2.5 hours in private vehicle to Ollantaytambo, where we have dinner before boarding the train to Aguas Calientes. The place where we stay overnight.

This day’s high point is the amazing Machu Picchu!
To see the sunrise, get one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu after an early breakfast at the hotel. It’s an absolutely remarkable location that you won’t want to miss. You will get a tour from your guide for around two hours. Discover a number of the most significant areas of Machu Picchu’s citadel. The division of Machu Picchu into three áreas-religious, residential, and agricultural-will also be covered. You will return to Aguas Calientes by bus for lunch (not included) after taking in the breathtaking vistas of Machu Picchu. You could also have time to go shopping, view the sights, or visit the museum or hot springs, depending on when your train leaves. Along the breathtaking Urubamba River, the Expedition train will return you to Ollantaytambo at 2:55 or 3:20 p.m. The tight canyon near Aguas Calientes has several lovely whitewater areas in the river; if you gaze up the steep canyon wall from the train, you can see Wiñay Wayna!
The driver is going to gather you up outside the train station in Ollantaytambo and transport you back to your Cusco hotel. It is anticipated that you will reach your hotel about 7:00 p.m.
